Megan vanzelfden artist

I'd like this blog to be about my art. I create jewelry and paint as well as write occasional poetry. Let me know what you think and share your own art in the comments. I love seeing what others create as well.

Saint Therese of Lisieux Painting, Acrylic on Paper

For many years I have had a special devotion to Saint Therese the Little Flower. She was a French nun who only lived 24 years but in that short life she found a way to love God and others in what she called her "little way." She suffered much emotionally throughout her life and her father was in a mental institution toward the end of his life. But she turned her sufferings into acts of love and even became a Doctor of the Catholic Church despite her very young age. She's an inspiration to many and I painted her in purple to represent her royal status.

Frida painting, Acrylic on Paper

I love Frida. Her story of her love for Diego despite how he treated her many times is tragic and inspiring. I love how she found an outlet for her pain both from her disability and her love for Diego through painting. Here is my first attempt to paint her.
